Animal Commissions

Pet Portraits and Wildlife Commissions

Would you like a unique picture of your pet as an everlasting memory? Then look no further.....
It is always a huge honour to be entrusted to draw a beloved pet who is one of the family. For me, an animal portrait is more than just capturing a likeness, its a unique blend of appearance, personality and my vision as an artist to create a picture that tells a story.

Or maybe you have a favourite wild animal that you would love a unique piece of artwork of to hang in your home? I love drawing wild animals and I am more than happy to produce a piece of artwork to suit you. Whether you have your own photographs from a safari or you need me to source some reference materials, then I'm happy to discuss your requirements.

Many hours go into producing a portrait of your pet that you will be able to treasure for many years to come. It can take anywhere from 40-100+ hours to produce a piece of work dependent upon size and complexity. My portraits are created in high quality artist pencils using Derwent Lightfast, Caran D’ache Luminance and Prismacolors on acid free archival paper. I work from good quality photos so I can create the level of detail I like to produce in a piece of work.

It is a very simple process to book a commission, just CONTACT ME and I will be very happy to discuss your requirements and walk you through the process.

FAQ

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CREATE A COMMISSION?

This really depends upon the length of my waiting list. If you CONTACT ME, I can give you an idea of when I can complete your portrait. When I'm actually working on your portrait, it can take anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks to complete, depending upon size and complexity. If you are looking to gift the picture as a present for a particular date then please get in touch sooner rather than later.

I HAVE SOME PHOTOGRAPHS, BUT I'M NOT SURE IF THEY WILL WORK, CAN YOU HELP ME?

I am more than happy to look at your photographs. I always ask customers to send me around 8-10 photographs to look at if possible. This gives me an opportunity to look at your pet from different positions to get to know them, and also look for the best photograph to work from. I have written a blog to help you take the best possible photographs of your pet for me to be able to produce the best possible work of art for you, I will always be honest, and if I feel they wouldn't work then I would prefer to say at the outset and provide you with guidance to get the best possible photos. Ideally, I would be able to select a couple of photos that would work well, so you can then choose which you would prefer.

MY PET SADLY PASSED AWAY, I ONLY HAVE A FEW PHOTOS, CAN YOU HELP?

I would like nothing more than to help you by creating a beautiful memorial piece to remember your pet. I'm more than happy to have a look at the photographs you have to give you my honest opinion as to whether I can help. I would far rather give you my honest opinion if I can help you, rather than you be disappointed with the outcome. My style is very detailed and ideally I prefer to work from clear, detailed photos.

I WOULD LIKE A BACKGROUND BUT I'M NOT SURE WHAT I WOULD LIKE, CAN YOU ADVISE ME?

Absolutely! Creating a picture that tells a story is my specialty. I love nothing more than designing and creating a background to set the scene for your pet. Most of my customers would like a background that they are happy for me to decide upon. I like to ask you some questions and then make some suggestions to ensure I am creating something you will be happy with. Sometimes people would like it to be based upon somewhere important to them, such as an area their dog loves to walk. In which case I would ask for photos to have a look at and then work with you to create something that would work.

WHEN DO I PAY FOR MY COMMISSION?

Once we have chosen a photograph you are happy for me to work from, then you will pay a 25% non refundable deposit to secure your place on my waiting list. It's at this point, I also send you a contract with all the details we have discussed and my terms and conditions for you to read and electronically sign. Once your picture is completed, I send you a final photo of your picture for your approval before you pay the remaining 75% balance (and any extra postage costs) and then I post it to you.

HOW DO I PAY?

The majority of my customers are happy to pay by bank transfer as this saves on unnecessary fees. If this does not suit you then I accept payment via PayPal.

AM I ABLE TO SEE ANY WORK IN PROGRESS PHOTOS?

Yes! Most of my customers enjoy receiving some work in progress photographs and watching their pet develop into a work of art. If you prefer to wait for the final photo and have a surprise then that is also ok.

IT'S A SURPRISE GIFT, CAN YOU KEEP IT A SECRET AND NOT POST ANY PICTURES ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

Of course! I love being in on creating a surprise gift and I am more than happy to keep it a secret and not post any work in progress or final pictures of it on social media until after it has been gifted.

WHO OWNS THE COPYRIGHT TO THE DRAWING?

Whilst the original picture belongs to you, the copyrights to it remain with me. Basically, this means that you don't have the right to make any copies of it without written permission from me the artist. I also have the right to post my drawing on my website and social media and any advertising materials. More information about this is available in my terms and conditions, which is attached to my contract.

ARE YOU ABLE TO SEND COMMISSIONS ABROAD?

Yes I can, I have sent pictures to a few different countries. If you CONTACT ME and let me know where you are and what you are wanting, then I can look and see what delivery costs would be. Depending upon your country, any customs tax that needs paying would be down to you.

If you have any other questions or are looking to book a commission with me then please do GET IN TOUCH and I would be delighted to help you.
